LASCELLE Andrew West
Shown here is Andrew West Lascelle in 1861 in La Salle County, Illinois as he prepares to march for the Union Army in the American Civil War. Pictured with him is a very worried girl friend, Mary Harriet Miner. Andrew served in Company A of the 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was among five in his military unit to be captured in Ackworth, Georgia by Confederate troops and taken to the infamous Andersonville prison in October 1864. Lucky to escape in December 1864, he rejoined Union forces in Florida in January 1865. Andrew and Mary were subsequently married in July 1865 in Walworth County, Wisconsin. They raised a family and by 1900 were forever more residents of Woodstock, Illinois.
