Prairie Patriot Certificates are available for descendants of all wars. The Veteran must have served during the indicated war and lived, died, or was buried in Illinois.
 
The applicant may be a direct descendant (through bloodline -- "child of a child") or an indirect descendant (through a sibling of the veteran) and must prove the relationship on the accompanying forms.
 
Wars that are included in the project are:
  • Revolutionary War
  • War of 1812
  • Blackhawk War
  • Mexican War
  • Civil War
  • Spanish-American War
  • World War I
  • World War II
 
Fee:  The fee for each certificate application is $30.00. One certificate and lapel pin is included in the fee and will be mailed after eligibility has been determined. Application fees will not be refunded.
 
Additional Certificates:  Brothers, sisters, children, or grandchildren of the applicant who wish to apply at the same time as the original applicant will also need to fill out an application. Their documentation need only show direct relationship to the original applicant. These additional applications include one designated certificate each. The fee for additional certificates is $30.00 each and will include a lapel pin.
